Experiment overview

A pedagogical tool designed as a structured notebook guiding children through the process of recognizing, understanding, and responding to problems affecting their peers, families, and most importantly: themselves.

The manual supported children in moving from passive observation to active engagement, enabling them to not only name challenges but also prototype tangible responses rooted in empathy and self-awareness.

Main objectives

The project was developed to strengthen emotional intelligence and practical problem-solving capabilities by encouraging children to consciously observe everyday situations, reflect on their emotional and social dimensions, and identify personal strengths that could be mobilised in response.

By combining guided questions, reflective exercises, and creative prototyping prompts, the manual fostered an integrated learning process connecting emotional literacy with action.

Achieved results

The manual effectively engaged children in articulating authentic concerns ranging from practical issues such as overly heavy backpacks or lost pets to more complex relational situations like sibling conflicts or social misunderstandings.

By treating these problems with genuine seriousness, the project validated children’s lived experiences and positioned them as capable agents of change. Observations were transformed into concrete ideas, sketches, and prototypes, demonstrating a clear shift from passive concern to constructive intervention.

Main reflection

This project revealed the depth of children’s innate capacity for empathy, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving when provided with appropriate frameworks and trust.

Rather than viewing challenges as fixed realities, participants learned to perceive them as spaces for imaginative exploration and meaningful action. The process cultivated a mindset in which care, responsibility, and creativity became interwoven, reinforcing the idea that empathy is not merely an emotion, but a practical skill that can shape more thoughtful and resilient individuals.
