Project overview
A fully developed campaign launched on Kickstarter (failed to collect foundings), proposing a hypothetical 18th Sustainable Development Goal as a strategic critique of the global sustainability agenda.
The project used the crowdfunding format as both a fundraising and awareness tool to expose how the existing SDG framework reinforces colonial power structures, technological determinism, and Western-centric models of “progress” that fail to address root causes of ecological and social collapse.
Main objectives
The campaign strategically aimed to:
☀︎ Deconstruct the myth of SDGs as neutral and universally beneficial tools
☀︎ eveal how sustainability discourse often prioritises technological optimism over structural accountability
☀︎ Challenge the dominance of Global North narratives that position themselves as saviours of crises they historically created
☀︎ Propose alternative visions rooted in systemic transformation, regenerative thinking, and epistemic justice
Achieved results
Although the Kickstarter campaign did not reach its funding goal, the project succeeded in articulating a radical counter-narrative to mainstream sustainability discourse.
Its rejection became a strategic insight: institutions and individuals are more willing to support “safe sustainability” than initiatives that question its ideological foundations. The campaign itself became living proof of how deeply entrenched and protected current sustainability paradigms remain.
Main reflection
The project confirmed that meaningful transformation cannot emerge from frameworks built to stabilise rather than disrupt. Real change demands decolonisation of knowledge systems, redistribution of power, and the courage to imagine futures beyond the language of targets, metrics, and controlled optimism.
