Experiment overview
A bold creative venture redefining “radical” as addressing root causes rather than symptoms, built on the intersection of sustainability principles, technological innovation, and visual storytelling.
This studio emerged from my personal desire to create a purpose-driven boutique organization that could challenge established thinking while delivering impactfull strategies.
The logo has an amusing origin story. After visiting Hong Kong, I became fascinated with Chinese culture and decided to translate “radical” into Mandarin for our branding. However, when my friend redesigned it, he altered the characters slightly. Upon checking how those adjustment influenced the original logo meaning, I discovered it is translated to “excitement” — but in a form that, when searching for images, returned pictures of Chinese men with erections!
The logo later evolved into a 3D version symbolizing technological excitement constrained by natural boundaries — a concept I found quite fitting despite its unintentionally risqué roots.
Main objectives
The studio was structured around three interconnected pillars that formed its foundation:
1: Integrating sustainability principles beyond surface-level applications to address root causes of environmental and social challenges
2: Leveraging technology and visual communication to create compelling, conscious design solutions for clients
3: Analyzing shifting mindsets, behaviors, and consumer trends to anticipate and shape future directions
Achieved results
The studio successfully attracted numerous clients who appreciated its unique approach. Additionally the organization of " Designing The Future" events as part of community building strategy fostered valuable conversations and connections.
Despite its creative achievements, the venture revealed significant structural challenges in the creative industry, particularly regarding payment cycles and financial sustainability for small studios.
Main reflection
This experiment exposed the precarious financial reality facing creative entrepreneurs, where talent and value creation often exist at the bottom of clients’ payment hierarchies trapped in bureaucratic systems.
This experience brutally highlighted how as a creative professional I had to frequently self-finance my work through extended payment cycles, creating unsustainable stress and financial instability despite delivering high-quality services.
While the studio ultimately collapsed like a “house of cards” despite its creative promise, it provided valuable insights into both the possibilities and structural limitations of building sustainability-focused creative enterprises in Poland’s business environment.
Looking back, now I see that the very system and structures I sought to challenge ultimately destroyed this project, draining me of the energy needed to push it forward. The irony wasn’t lost on me - a venture aimed at addressing root causes was itself uprooted by the systemic dysfunctions it attempted to transform.
